Our story

Food that
feeds twice.

Chakula started long before there was a bakery: with food, community, and the belief that every order can do a little more.

How we started

Chakula started long before there was a bakery.

In 2017, Chakula began as an Instagram food page, created simply to share recipes that were affordable, joyful and made to be enjoyed together. Food was always about more than what was on the plate. It was a way to bring people together, create memories and make something special out of the everyday.

At the end of 2025, we launched a fundraiser to support people affected by the hurricanes in Jamaica. We began baking to raise money, never expecting the response that followed. Orders came in, people shared what we were making, and suddenly something that had started as a fundraiser began to look like a business.

Our story · continued

That moment reminded us of something we had always believed: food has the power to do more than feed us. It can bring people together, create community and give back.

And so, Chakula as you know it was born.

Today, we bake with that same spirit we started with, making food we genuinely love, sharing it with our community, and finding ways for every plate, box and order to do a little more.

Our mission

Everyone deserves access to good food.

Food insecurity is about more than hunger. It is about people having to choose between essentials, families stretching meals further than they should, and people in our communities going without.

At Chakula, we want to play our part in changing that.

We believe food has the power to do more than feed us. It can bring people together, create community and give back. That's why we built Chakula around a simple idea: food that feeds people twice.

When you order from us, your money does two things. It feeds you, with something delicious, made with care and it helps us feed someone else.

A percentage of the profits from every Chakula order goes towards joining the fight against food insecurity. So every time you order a box of cookies or a tray of cinnamon buns, you are helping us put food where it is needed most.

But we don't want giving back to stop at a donation.

Every quarter, Chakula will dedicate a portion of our time, resources and profits to a different food-focused initiative. This could mean supporting food banks, funding meals, running food drives, rescuing surplus food or partnering with organisations already doing the work in our communities.

As we grow, we want our impact to grow with us, building long-term partnerships and creating initiatives that provide meaningful, practical support to people experiencing food insecurity.

Because we believe food should bring people together, not be something people have to go without.

Your money feeds you. And we use it to help feed others.

That's what we mean when we say food that feeds people twice.

Our bakes

Good food, made with care.

We take our bakes seriously.

Every cookie and cinnamon bun is made by hand, in small batches, with quality ingredients and plenty of patience. We believe the difference is in the details, from the ingredients we choose to the time we give our dough.

Our cinnamon buns are made to be soft, fluffy and indulgent, with layers that pull apart and a gooey brown sugar bottom. Our cookie dough is chilled before baking, giving it time to develop a deeper, richer and more complex flavour while creating the soft, gooey centre we love.

Nothing is rushed. We mix, chill, shape and bake with care, because good baking takes time.

But for us, quality isn't just about ingredients or technique. It's about how we make you feel when you open the box.

Whether you're ordering a single cookie, bringing a box to a friend's house or sharing buns around a table, we want every Chakula order to feel like someone has taken the time to make something especially for you.

Good food, made with care. Made to be shared. Made to give back.

That's Chakula.
